For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful… (Isaiah 9:6).
As we end 2020 and soon begin 2021, we are considering the fact that Jesus Christ is Wonderful. We have thus far looked at the wonder of His birth, Person, teaching, and His character. We now consider three more facets of His wonder.
His works were Wonderful. Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, “Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons; but in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted of Him. The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all); that word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem…’ (Acts 10:34-39). His amazing ministry consisted of healing, teaching, and preaching.
His death and Resurrection were Wonderful. Moreover brethren, I declare unto you the gospel, which I preached to you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I have preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures; and that he was seen… (1 Corinthians 15:1-5) Jesus came to die. He died, was buried, and rose again the third day for you and for me.
His second coming will be Wonderful. First, He will return to the clouds in what is known as the Rapture. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). All who know the Lord will be gathered to Him.
Then seven years later, He will come to earth to rule and reign for one thousand years. And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Revelation 19:11-16)
Truly, Jesus Christ the Lord is Wonderful in all of the aspects of His Person and work. Let us praise Him, and look up, for behold, He is coming! Are you ready?
