Transgender Ideology?
Have ye not read that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female…? (Matthew 19:4a)
We seem to live in a ‘brave new world’ where people can choose among a plethora of genders. People who support transgender surgery and cross-sex hormones may be well-intentioned, but behind those intentions there are some fatal flaws. Let us look at five of them.
First, the design of the body proves that there are only two genders. While transgender advocates insist there are multiple genders, our bodies show that there are only two. One’s body produces either sperm or eggs. There is no third alternative. Yes, there are exceptions, but that is a matter of incapacity. Only if one detaches the concept of gender from biological sex is one able to come up with more than two genders. But if one insists on separating gender and biological sex, why would anyone advocate for sex change operation? This leads to the second flaw…
Transgenderism must presuppose fixed genders. While transgender advocates deny there are only two genders, they must unwittingly presuppose two genders for transgenderism to be possible. Why? Because if I am a biological male who thinks he is a woman, I must have some idea of what a man and a women are like to recognize my problem. In order to ‘transition,’ I need to know what a man and a woman are like. In other words, gender dysphoria could not exist if there weren’t two known fixed genders.
This has created a war in the LGBTQ arena because if the T’s have their way, there can be no L’s, G’s, or B’s. And , if one refuses to define a woman, then transgenderism is not possible—who would be transitioning to what?
Third, you can change your mind but not your biology. Why do we think changing a body instead of the mind is the way to fix the problem? If your daughter thinks she is a mermaid, would you drop her in the ocean? If your son thinks he is Superman, would you drop him off of a building? So why do we think we should cut off healthy organs rather than trying to help people change their minds? One can mutilate her body but she cannot change her DNA.
Fourth, sex is not assigned at birth. For transgender ideology to succeed, people must believe that gender is arbitrary and is assigned at birth. But everyone knows that gender is not assigned at birth, rather, it is discovered. People don’t get to vote at a gender reveal party. Yes, there are exceptions. However, sexual ambiguity is a biological condition, not a psychological one, and is almost always remedied so that the person ends up male or female.
Fifth, there is no basis for transgender rights. New rights seem to be invented every other day. Rights don’t come from government. Rights can come only from God, our Creator. Without God and His truth, every moral issue ends up being a matter of opinion. People can demand their government legislate or declare certain behaviors to be rights, but that doesn’t make them rights.
Instead of trying to change reality to fit our thoughts and desires, how about changing our desires to fit reality; the beautiful reality that God has ordained since the beginning of time—man and woman.
